Amal combines knowledge, courtroom skills, and experience with a client-centered approach to achieve meaningful results.

Amal's career spans key roles within the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), including as Assistant Chief Counsel for DHS's Office of Principal Legal Advisor and Staff Attorney for CBP's Office of Chief Counsel. In these positions, she represented the government in thousands of immigration hearings, litigated complex cases to completion, advised on intricate interpretations of immigration statutes and policies, and provided litigation support to U.S. Attorney’s Offices. Her experience also includes reviewing employee ethics and compliance issues, drafting advisory memoranda, and delivering legal trainings on immigration matters, use of force, and civil liberties—ensuring regulatory adherence and minimizing risks. Prior to her federal service, Amal honed her litigation skills as an Associate Attorney at a reputable civil litigation firm, managing a diverse portfolio in environmental and toxic tort defense, and as a Deputy District Attorney, where she prosecuted misdemeanor and felony cases with a focus on public safety and justice. As Principal of her own law firm, she specialized in asylum, adjustment of status, and family-based petitions, while also serving as a contract attorney in workers’ compensation, preparing clients for depositions and negotiating settlements.

A proud Navy Veteran, Amal served as a Hospital Corpsman and graduated with high honors from the Naval School of Health Sciences in Preventive Medicine, embodying the discipline and resilience that define her legal practice. As an immigrant from Sierra Leone who navigated the asylum process as a child, she brings a deeply personal perspective to her work, understanding the challenges and aspirations of those seeking a new life in the U.S. This empathy, paired with her professional expertise, makes her a reliable partner who builds trust through clear communication, thorough preparation, and unwavering commitment.
