Our client came to our office after being granted asylum. He wanted to apply for adjustment of status to obtain his green card, but feared he could have problems due to his prior membership in the Communist Party.

Our client desperately needed to be granted adjustment of status as his parents were ageing and he wanted the ability to see them one last time. However, his asylee status did not let him travel without authorization or he would risk losing it and being sent back to a country where he feared for his life. This would also mean separation from his child and spouse, who we also assisted in her adjustment of status application.

Understanding the importance of the matter, our office carefully analyzed his case and discovered his membership was for the sole purpose of obtaining employment, and advised him of his eligibility for a waiver.

We assisted him in applying for his adjustment of status and filed the waiver at the same time to avoid any delays in our client’s case. With our help, our client’s waiver and adjustment of status were approved, granting him legal permanent residence (a green card) in the United States!
